Public Utilities Commission creates public awareness among power consumers PDF Print E-mail

(Colombo Lankapuvath March 12) The Public Utilities Commission initiates a special programme to create an awareness among the public on safeguarding the rights of the Electricity consumers.

The Public Utilities Commission has paid special attention to the problems faced by the electricity consumers, amounting to about 4.5 million in order to safe guard their rights.

This has been done according to the Parliamentary Act of 2009, No 02 which provides for transforming the supply of electricity as a more efficient public service.

In  providing the consumers with an uninterrupted power supply, maintenance of power supply, application for power supplies, accounting electricity bills, supply of high power and low power voltage  services and other problems associated with power supply, would receive the attention of the Public Utilities Commission.

After the establishment of the Public Utilities Commission last year, awareness programmes were conducted at district level to public servants, school children, business community, power consumer societies, employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board involving power consumers.

It is the intention of the Public Utility Commission to make the entire electricity services more efficient by creating awareness among the consumers and the public.
