DG retorts to “Sunday Leader” Editor PDF Print E-mail

(Colombo Lankapuvath March 07) The news published yesterday (06) in a National Newspaper to the effect that the former Army Intelligence Chief is being interrogated on the murder of Mr. Lasantha Wickramathunga, the Editor “Sunday Leader” is a falsehood, which is a grave threat to National Security said Mr. Lakshman Hulugalle, Director General Media Center for National Security.

He said this addressing media briefing held at MCNS premises yesterday (06). Certain media mislead the public and the international community on the murder of Mr.Lasantha Wickramathunga and the arrest of General Sarath Fonseka irresponsible publication of such false news tarnish the image of government and the three forces and the Police, Mr. Hulugalle
 added.

Seventeen military personnel were interrogated regarding the murder and eleven have been released, Mr. Hulugalle
 revealed.

Preliminary inquires regarding evidence collected in connection with the impending trial of General Sarath Fonseka to be held at Court Martial has been concluded. The report on the summary on evidence will be submitted in the course of next week. Further facts related to financial transactions made by General Sarath Fonseka his son-in –law Dhanuka Thilakarathna and his mother Mrs  Asoka Thilakarathna have been collected by the CID to be used for civil legal action, Mr. Hulugalle confirmed.

The news appearing in a National Newspaper today to the effect that Army Intelligence Chief is being interrogated in connection with the murder of Mr.Lasantha Wickramathunga is false. Military Personnel were interrogated and only 06 are now being interrogated, Mr. Prishantha Jayakodi, S.P Police Media Spokesmen revealed. The court was informed of the present state of the investigation on March 04, Mr. Jayakodi reveled.

Again on march 18, the court will be informed of the progress of the investigations, Mr. Jayakodi added. The C.I.D is conducting investigation into the alleged violations of foreign exchange regulations the Police Media Spokesman S.P.Jayakodi confirmed.

Major General Prasad Samarasinghe Military Spokesmen also denied the report published in a National Newspaper, concerning the alleged interrogation of the Army Intelligence Chief.
