(Colombo-Lankapuvath) With the aim to expand the sport of swimming currently confined to urban areas in the country areas, the Ministry of Sports is to construct 07 new swimming pools island wide.
The total cost of swimming pool construction at Maliyadewa Girls’ School Kurunegala, Madampe Central College Chillaw, Mahanama Vidyalaya Monaragala, D.S. Senanayake College Ampara, Jayathilake Sports Complex Nawalapitiya and Thamasaangiri Stadium Ampara is estimated at 63 million rupees.
It is scheduled to construct a 50m swimming pool at provincial sports complex project and district and divisional sports complex project under Sri Lanka’s 7 year National Strategic Plan for Sports launched by the Ministry of Sports. It is also planned to get the assistance of foreign swimming coaches, added the Ministry.
