(Colombo Lankapuvath February 17) The Government decided to fix a guaranteed price for corn. The guaranteed price will be Rs. 28 per kg.
The government took this step in order to protect the local corn farmer.
A decision to impose tax on imported corn was made at a meeting of the National Task Force on Corn Promotion held yesterday headed by Senior Presidential Advisor MP Basil Rajapaksa.
The approval of the Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services Ministry is necessary to import corn. The corn importers are to come under an import license with immediate effect.
