Rains to some provinces

(Colombo Lankapuvath) The Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern parts of the country are likely to experience thunder showers during the day, the Met Department said.
Puttalam and Kurunegala districts are also likely to experience showers.
The cyclone in the South Western part of the country is moving away from the country while winds off the South Western part would be considerably strong, the Department said.

Sluice gates opened in N' Eliya reservoirs

The Nuwara Eliya District Secretary, D.P.G Kumarasiri stated that sluice gates were opened in Canyon, Castle, Maussakele and Upper Kotmale reservoirs.

Basil to open ultra-modern hotel school today

(Colombo-Lankapuvath)Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa will open today (15th) at 10a.m. the Sri Lanka Tourism and Hotel Management Institute which has been built at Kundasale in Kandy. The institute, equipped with all the modern facilities, is meant to train personnel required for the programme to attract 2.5 million tourists to Sri Lanka by 2016.

Steps to ban import and sale of milk powder with poisonous elements

(Colombo-Lankapuvath) The Food Committee of the Ministry of Health has decided to completely ban the import and sale of milk powder containing destructive elements.
The decision was soon followed when it was revealed that the milk powder imported from New Zealand contained the deleterious substance: dicyanamide.

Victory Day rehearsals: Galle Face Centre Road closed

(Colombo-Lankapuvath) The rehearsals of the Victory day which is to be celebrated next May 18th will be held tomorrow (15) the day after (16) and on 17th, said the Police Media Unit.
Thereby, the road will be closed from 10:00 am tomorrow until the end of rehearsals, and from 07:00 am to the end of rehearsal on 16th and 17th, added the Police Media Unit.
