Civil Security Guard commits suicide
Indian Communist Party voices support for Lankan government
(Colombo Lankapuvath)The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has stated that it was against any independent, international enquiry into the allegations of war crimes against the Sri Lankan government during the military offensive against the LTTE, party’s central committee leader T K Rangarajan said.
Favouring an enquiry by the government itself, he said, “A credible enquiry should be conducted into the atrocities. Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation and a friend of India.” To a query on the party’s stand on the demand for a separate Tamil Eelam, he said, “We have always supported a unified Sri Lanka with equal rights for all citizens.”
When asked whether the CPM, claiming to be a Marxist-Leninist party, had abandoned the principle of self-determination rights for nationalities, he said a decision should not be imposed on the Sri Lankan people fro-m outside. It was for the people of the island to decide. When asked whether people’s wish should be ascertained from a referendum, he rejected it, Express News Service reports.

SL migrant workers will be felicitated
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - An island wide programme will be organized to felicitate Sri Lankan migrant workers inline with the international ‘Migrant’s Day’ which falls on December 18.
Minister of Foreign Employment and Welfare Dilan Perera said the felicitation ceremony will be held under the patronage of the President Mahinda Rajapakse at the Galle Face Green on Sunday (18).
A special felicitation stamp and a First Day cover will be issued.
The special electronic card introduced for Sri Lankan migrant workers will also be issued by the President.
The Foreign Employment Bureau will offer scholarships for students of the migrant workers.
