Second stage of Southern Expressway construction over in next year

(Colombo-Lankapuvath) The second stage of construction of the Southern Expressway is to be completed in 2013, said the Deputy Minister of Ports and Highways, Nirmala Kothalawala.

The second phase is to be constructed from Pinnaduwa to Matara.

The total length will be 26 KMs and the highway will consist of 6 lanes.

The first phase of the Southern Expressway was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 27 November 2011 and the Expressway was to be lengthened to Hambantota, added the Deputy Minister.
