(Colombo-Lankapuvath) The Health Ministry has imposed a ban on the use of carbide to ripen fruits,a Health Ministry spokesman said.
He said the use of carbide caused health problems in a long term consumption of such fruits.
A study had revealed that carbide induced to the human system through the consumption of such fruits affected internal organs in the long run.
