Arahat Mahinda arrives to Mihintale in Anurdhapura where he meets with the then King, Devanampiyathissa which triggers the introduction of Buddhism to the country. Arahat Mahinda is sent to Sri Lanka by Emperor Ashoka who ruled India.
On his arrival, Arahat Mahinda Preached ‘Chullahatthipadopama Suthra’ and enlightened the life of the Lankans.
Today, Sri Lankans are celebrated is second to Vesak Poya illuminations and Poson lanterns.
