(Colombo Lankapuvath) I was 15 when I first worshiped the Munneshwaram kovil. A lot of the locals had made it a habit to go to Munneshwaram to celebrate its feast. Munneshwaram is situated in Chilaw, and it is revered by devotees of all religions of the country. Thousands of people attend the annual feast of the Munneshwaram Ishwar kovil, so needless to say it was overflowing with devotees by the time we got there. The strong sea winds buffeted the flags that were on full mast all around the kovil grounds, and the air was rich with the smell of camphor. (Colombo Lankapuvath) It was a ritual practiced since the old days that the “Sandeshaya” containing the message of the successful completion of the Esala Perahara is handed over to the state leader. As history reports, the message is handed over to the leader of the nation by the Diyawadane Nilame accompanied by the other Basnayake Nilames. This year too the ritual was practiced by Diyawadane Nilame, where he handed over the traditional Sandeshaya to the President subsequent to the completion of the day perehara of the Sri Dalada Maligawa. Later it was also reported that this sub politico was expected to be present at apolice inquiry at the Police for a complaint of breach of trust amounting to one million rupees from a female did not turn up at the police station yesterday (02). Instead a lawyer had informed the police that he could not come as he had to be present at to some urgent matters. (Colombo Lankapuvath) A suspect who had cajoled many young women saying that he was an Investigator of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been apprehended by police. The imposter, who is a resident of the Minuwangoda Kotugoda area, had managed to hoodwink many beautiful young women including a policewoman. The Katunayake Avariwaththa and Airport High Security Zone had been a frequent haunt of the suspect, who had frequented around the area in a vehicle bearing the VIP logo and carrying a fake pistol. He was arrested by the Katunayake Police who acted upon a complaint received by them. The conman now faces a host of charges, including the impersonation of a Government servant, carrying the logo of a Government servant, and falsely promising marriage.
